• How to make the best calcium supplement from eggshells!

    We have more calcium than any other mineral in our bodies. Most of our calcium is in our bones and teeth. We also need calcium for our nerves, muscles, and many other body functions like enzymes.

    We need a good supply of calcium every day. If we don’t have enough, then our body will take calcium from our bones and teeth!

    It’s important that the source of calcium comes through a living organism. Some calcium supplements come from limestone, which is more difficult for our bodies to absorb and use. The best supplements come from coral or eggshells. If you already use eggs (or know someone who does), then you have a free source of high quality calcium.

    Here’s what you need to do to turn your waste eggshells into a great calcium powder.

    • Wash out your eggshells under running cold water, then store in the fridge for up to 1 week until you have enough to work with. Wash out any egg white, but don’t remove the membrane. The membrane contains extra nutrients.
    • When you have enough eggshells:
    • Place your shells on an oven tray and cook at 180 degrees Celsius for 10 minutes or so. The boiling water and oven is to kill any bacteria.
    • Place your eggshells into a blender, thermomix, coffee grinder or anything similar. Grind to a fine powder.
    • 1 teaspoon of your powdered eggshells contains approximately 800-1000mg calcium.
    • Use no more than 1 teaspoon per day. Often 1/4 teaspoon will be enough.
    • Be careful not to take too much calcium on it’s own. Calcium and magnesium are antagonists (they work opposite to each other). For example, calcium is needed to contract a muscle, magnesium is needed to relax a muscle. If you take too much of either one you can potentially create issues.
